CIA offers buyouts to entire workforce (reuters.com)
rich_sasha 157 days ago [-]
Soo... I mean... Can anything go wrong when you take people extremely well trained in covert action, with a lot of know-how about how US and allied intelligence agencies work, and take their income away after 8 months?

Would they take money for doing much the same job but for another employer, less fullt aligned to America's interests?

I'm sure most of them would never dream of it, but there may be the odd one with a sick child and a desperate need for money.

This is hilarious to watch. The people working at CIA are probably the most evil people on this planet. Now they are getting a taste of their own medicine. Good for them!

One of the rare instances of recursion on HN

This is the worst possible move. After 9/11 CIA did not even have anyone at the Afghanistan desk, and as the rumor goes, had to go find him in retirement, sober him up, and get him to the White House.

I wonder how much of that affects its Directorate of Science & Technology, which may be a little more topical for HN.

I fear there's going to be a lot more cyberattacks on the US in the coming years.

Well, he's not removing the deep state -- but buying them out.

Retiring them is the first step, you can't remove the bureaucratic cancer in one go.
