I was just reading Stephen Ambrose's book about the Lewis & Clark expedition ("Undaunted Courage.") A key moment in their multi-year expedition (after surviving their first winter) was reaching the other side of the Rocky mountains and then hoping they'd be able to buy horses from a local tribe.

And when they talked to the chief for that crucial negotiation, they'd realized he was related to Sacagawea...
