An AI-generated radio host in Australia went unnoticed for months (theverge.com)
cibyr 1 days ago [-]
Given how inane pretty much everything on commercial radio is, I'm not surprised nobody noticed.

I think it's more that it's Australia. I visited once and literally all that was on the radio was Rugby League and Vegemite.

From the article:

> Its owner, ARN Media, confirmed to the Financial Review that while Thy is AI-generated, the host’s voice and likeness are modeled after an actual employee in the company’s financial department. Thy’s voice was created with the AI voice generator ElevenLabs.

I get that it's a cloned voice, but it's a little unclear if the actual spoken content itself was:

- LLM generated

- Written by humans

- A mixture of both

Would it not cost more if they had to get humans to write out all the content instead of just having a human DJ?

Writers are cheaper than hosts and typically both are union members.

Now if they had had call-ins it would have passed the Turing test. Still impressive feat
