Trump administration lifts restrictions on OpenAI's GPT 5.6 (axios.com)
gck1 2 days ago [-]
Is this how it's going to work for every new model release - the executive branch inserting itself into decisions made by private companies?

As a non-American who grew up in a deeply corrupt country, this sets off every alarm bell.

It seems much of society across many countries is ok with this.

It's also why I'm buying my own hardware and running open weight models. There's a few forms of freedom in doing so.

I am fairly convinced the admin has a servcie where they will ban your products for like a few weeks and then lift the ban if you buy a certain certain cryptocurrency coin.

But the marketing didn't really work very well for OpenAI as much as it did for Anthropic. People still Mythos is some mythical-level software that is basically skynet while 5.6 is seen as another product. OpenAI needs to spend way more than the 5 billion it did last year on marketing to keep up.

I am betting on Dario to win the ipo race.
